The longest day
On May 20, 2011 my loving and inspiring father, Elden Page, passed away from complications due to Alzheimer’s Disease. He was a man of service…Fit To Serve in every way!! I saw him serving others in our church, in the Boy Scouts program, in the apartments we owned, and in our home. He loved his family, and went to great lengths to ensure we had a beautiful home that he built and that we grew up knowing how to work hard and play hard. His example of service leaves me only hoping that I can become like he was.
Every June, the Alzheimer’s association holds a fundraiser, and event, called The Longest Day in memory of those who have suffered from the disease. Our Gym chose to be a part of this day by committing our members to have someone working out…exercising every hour of the day from 12 midnight to 12 midnight and procure funds as pledges that go to the Alzheimer’s Association. I chose to take on the first 4 hours, from 12 midnight to 4 am and run a marathon on a treadmill in honor of my Dad. No TV…just me thinking of my Dad and the great man of service he was and always will be in my life.
